Reston-Herndon Branch Celebrates 40th Anniversar

The branch celebrated its 40th anniversary at a picnic June 11, 2009 at the home of branch member Carol Van Evera.

Gail Osberg given award by Fairfax County Library Board of Trustees

Gail Osberg, AAUW member for ____ years was recognized at a Fairfax County Library Board of Trustees meeting and awarded a certificate for donating 1000 hours of her time as a volunteer at the Reston Regional Library.  Gail is a former librarian in Fairfax County.  She has been working on indexing all of the issues of the Reston Times which are on microfilm.

Reston Teacher in 2008

Linda Martin, seated at right, was honored as Virginia AAUW Educator of the Year at the state convention April 11-13, 2008 in Roanoke, VA.  Linda is coordinator of the GEMS conference and gifted and talented specialist at Dogwood School and was nominated for the award by the Reston-Herndon Branch.  Shown with Linda, seated at left, is branch president Carol Hurlburt.  Standing are branch members Suzanne Cook, Carol Van Evera, Marilyn Silvey, Nancy Thompson and Mary Zane

Tech-Savvy Girls Project
In the spring of 2001, branch members Elizabeth Vandenburg, Clare Klunk, and Laura Jones applied for and received a Community Action Grant from the Educational Foundation to create and distribute a short video to educate parents, guidance counselors and technology teachers on the importance of encouraging girls in technology. This project covered a two-year period and involved many branch members.
