Comments/Questions: I am a descendant of William Skinner. This person died in Augusta, Georgia about 1820. It is beleived he came to Georgia from North Carolina. It is known that he served in the Revolutionary War at the rank of Major. There is an historical marker in Augusta, Ga. attesting that George Washington had breakfast at Skinner's house on his way to Charleston on May 17, 1791. Records show he was granted over 2000 acres of land in the new county of Screven Georgia for his service in the Revolutionary War. This would have been after the war ended. There are also records that a William Skinner was granted 100 acres in 1770 though it can't be ascertained for certain if this is the same William Skinner. I have records of his descendents but I have nothing of his origin or of his ancestors. Any help form anyone is much appreciated.
